After careful deliberation our panel of local, creative professionals have narrowed the list of potential winners for the Pitch Please! competition at YMCA HQ down to four.

Pitch Please! offers a $1,000 business boost to a creative young person, as well as one year’s free use of the new business incubator and co-working space at HQ in Leederville.

With the panel comprising of YMCA WA Executive Manager Jennie Burns, Professional Photographer Josh Fernandes and musician / vlogger Paris Mitchell, HQ Manager Andrew Rigg said they certainly had their work cut out for them by the young people’s entries.

“The judging panel met on Thursday to go through the written entries and the finalists were selected based on the clarity of their entry and the viability of the concept,” Andrew said.

“The finalists have now been matched with a suitable professional mentor who will assist them in refining their concepts, ahead of delivering their 5-minute pitch next Thursday 3rd August at HQ from 6pm.”

With the finalists also attending a pitch development workshop and receiving an individual session with a TEDx speaker coach before their pitch, Andrew is confident the young people are receiving an unparalleled opportunity.

The finalists range from 16 – 21 years old and their business initiatives include a venture that promotes young artists in Perth via a website and magazine, an oil paint portraiture company, a sustainable designer products and furniture service, and a visual art company that offers a cheaper alternative to graphic design and brand identity.

Andrew said: “The judges will be looking for clarity in the way the finalists deliver their pitch, evidence that the finalists have thought about key aspects of the logistics behind launching their business and working on growing their concepts with clear objectives and goals.”

Perth’s very own Famous Sharron will host the final event next Thursday, making it even more of an occasion not to be missed. There are limited spaces available at the finals event, so contact Andrew at YMCA HQ to reserve your place.

YMCA HQ’s YCollaborate space and Pitch Please! competition have been made possible by YMCA WA, Small Business Development Corporation, Spoilt Photo Booths, RTR FM and Be Your Own Business.
