On Wednesday October 26 YMCA WA held its annual Staff Awards at Morley Sport & Recreation Centre, to acknowledge another fantastic and successful year by all involved at the Y.
The night focused around recognising the hard work contributed by all staff over the course of the last 12 months while also acknowledging everyone’s impact on the community in helping children and young people grow in body, mind and spirit.
The first award presented on the night was the Innovation Grant, issued to a service which comes up with the most supported, innovative idea that is about having an impact on one of our three areas of focus, being; children transitioning into schooling, young people transitioning into adulthood and the community transitioning in their health and wellness journey.
A Smart Start Cranbrook was the winner of this award and will use the $20,000 grant over the next 6-12 months to roll out their new ‘Step Together’ program in 2017. A Smart Start supports families with children aged 0-4 with resources and information that empowers parents.
The Star Award acknowledges a demonstrated commitment to Service, Teamwork, Approach and Reliability and was awarded to Kerry McIntyre, Accounts Payable Officer from the Finance Department.
Brooke Draper, General Manager of Metro, was presented the Leadership Excellence Award for her commitment and innovation in her approach to her work, while also encouraging leadership potential in those around her.
The final award of the night was the Mission Program Excellence Award, which recognises success in community engagement and in reflecting YMCA WA’s mission in helping children and young people grow in body, mind and spirit.
This award was taken out by the Kindergarten Oral Language Program (KOLP). The evidence based program supports early language skills to help children reach their full potential and is delivered by passionate Speech Pathologists and Therapy assistants.
To cap off a sensational year for KOLP, the team also received the Program of Excellence Award at the annual National YMCA Convention in November.
The staff awards was a wonderful night spent celebrating the year’s success which was made possible by each and every one of our staff members.
