Student Internship to find more mentors

General

YMCA WA’s YMentoring program has partnered with the brand new UWA McCusker Centre for Citizenship to offer internships for students enrolled in the Centre’s program.

YMentoring Manager, Tim Galloway said “The McCusker Charitable Foundation has always been a strong advocate for mentoring and it’s great that the Foundation continues to enable us to meet the needs of at-risk young people in our community.”

UWA student Daniel Ly has taken on an internship with YMentoring as a Volunteer Recruitment Officer. Daniel will take on the challenge to explore new approaches to recruit volunteer mentors.

“It’s fantastic to have a fresh set of eyes on the program’s mentor recruitment. Having Daniel on board has already given us some strong avenues to explore for recruiting that we would have otherwise been unaware of,” said Tim.

The McCusker Centre seeks to foster community-minded thinkers and leaders by significantly increasing the opportunities for University of Western Australia’s students to collaborate and work with community and not-for-profit organisations. The Centre’s aim is that our community’s future leaders are exposed to philanthropy during their studies in order to instil them with a community-minded ethos that continues throughout their career.

Under the program, students from UWA choose from a range of positions created by community organisations specifically for the Centre’s students - and undertake projects that allow them to develop their skills whilst directly benefiting the community.

The Centre is currently accepting intern positions for their second semester program. Contact Kylie Hansen for more details at kylie.hansen@uwa.edu.au or (08) 6488 7873. If you are interested in becoming a mentor for young people contact Tim Galloway on 0438 951 731.
