Staff celebrated all ‘round on the evening of Friday 26 October at the YMCA WA Staff Awards 2018, with a joint win between two services for the 2018 Mission Program Excellence Award.

The YMCA WA Staff Awards are held annually, bringing together YMCA staff from all regions of Western Australia to celebrate our efforts made as an organization, and what makes YMCA a great place to work. This year’s ceremony saw staff come together for a night of dancing and socializing with MC Lisa Fernandez, by the picturesque banks of the Swan River at South of Perth Yacht Club.

The Mission Program Excellence Award recognises a centre, program or service which, over the past 12 months, has achieved evident success in community engagement and whose activities reflect YMCA WA mission in helping people grow in body, mind and spirit.

Congratulations to our joint winners and all nominees for being recognized in the Mission Program Excellence Award category. This year, YMCA recognized two winners taking out the title, with ‘RTO-VET In Schools’ by YMCA Training and ‘Inclusion 4 Life’ by YMCA Morley Sport and Recreation Centre sharing the winning title.

Speaking of the win, Katherine Sherratt, Senior VET Consultant at YMCA WA said:

“Winning this award is a fantastic appreciation for the hard work put in by the entire team. We work with almost 15,000 students across multiple schools across the state, it makes this win for the team even more gratifying.”

“Young people are our next generation, so it’s vital we inspire them and provide engaging education for them so they can excel and be their best. RTO- VET in schools is a great step towards bringing this engagement to young people”.

David McIlhone, Manager at YMCA Morley also commended his team on the win.

“This is a major achievement for the Morley staff and the Inclusion 4 life program. Since introducing Inclusion 4 Life in 2014, our participants have overcome physical and emotional challenges, seeing increased social skills and their ability to participate in schooling.”

“Our participants have even found greater purpose with their peers, which I think is the most inspiring of all.”
