On Thursday 2nd March YMCA Kalgoorlie launched a new dance program for kids aged 18 months to four years old. The new addition joins the highly successful and extremely popular Kalkids gymnastics program that operates out of YMCA Kalgoorlie.

Kalkids hosts 150 children per week, and in a strong sign for the new program, ‘Jazz with Jess’ was at capacity before it even took off.

Kalkids creator Julie Beeson explained ‘Jazz with Jess’ has a different edge from other regular dance programs.

“We’re trialling mini terms so half-term programs which are five weeks, and it’s $35 for the five weeks,” Julie said.

“We’re doing this to increase the convenience for families; this way they can do the half-term instead of having to commit for the full 10 weeks.”

Thursday's launch was expected to be one session at 9:15am, but due to high demand, three classes took place with more than 30 children involved all up.

The classes were led by YMCA WA instructor Jess Wright, who is an experienced and enthusiastic dancer.

'Jazz with Jess' aims to encourage dance, musical rhythm and movement for the children, and hopes to get parents and families through the centre to show what else YMCA Kalgoorlie has to offer.
