Mirnutharntu Maya

Is Mirnutharntu Maya still operating?

Yes, we are still operating and offering safe and affordable accommodation in South Hedland. Our circumstances may change if at any time the Australian Government and/or Department of Communities instructs this facility to close.

What will happen if Mirnutharntu Maya has to close?

If we are instructed to close it means we will not be able to take any short stay or visitor bookings. However, long staying residents will be able to remain onsite with support and supervision by our staff.

I reside or work at Mirnutharntu Maya, what happens if I experience cold or flu like symptoms?

Please immediately call and notify on-the-call YMCA staff member on 0455 415 305 followed by a call to South Hedland Hospital on (08) 9174 1000 or your GP. They will then advise you where you can be assessed. Make sure you call describing your symptoms before you go to the hospital or GP. Follow doctor’s instructions, if you are required to self-quarantine, please notify our on call staff and stay in your unit. Do not enter any shared areas such as the dining room, recreation room or any shared laundry rooms. On call will liaise with you to drop off food, water and collect any dirty laundry which will be cleaned for you.

What happens if a resident or staff member has a confirmed case of COVID-19?

More than likely, the hospital will quarantine the patient. We require you to contact us immediately with the results of the diagnosis. A deep clean of the centre will take place, and the Bain Marie will cease to be used and foods will be only be available from the fridge or freezer to minimise cross contamination.
